White Desert is a project founded by record-breaking polar explorer, Patrick Woodhead, and his wife Robyn, that launched the first and only luxury camp in Antarctica. The project is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a refurbishment of its camp – complete with new sleeping pods, lounge and dining room. The boutique camp, probably the most remote in the world, overlooks a spectacular 200ft icefall.
White Desert prides itself on revealing the real Antarctica to its guests, whilst ensuring a bespoke, luxury experience to fulfill even the most discerning traveller’s expectations. With genuine explorers as their guides, thrill-seekers can abseil into glacial crevasses, kite-ski, rock climb and trek through mazes of iridescent blue ice grottos. For those seeking a more relaxed trip, guests can indulge in a culinary excellence at the base camp prepared by White Desert’s resident chef, Justine Lindsey, and enjoy visits to world renowned science bases and trail walks to penguin colonies.
The custom-made, fiberglass sleeping pods have been revamped with ensuite bathrooms. There is a new lounge with a library and bar, while the dining room has also been entirely remodeled to include a majestic bespoke oak round table surrounded by opulent fur chairs.
