The place where a train sleeps

The house for the track renewal train, or a garage for that matter, has all basic architectural elements: structural elements, volume, skin and above all, its function.

This type of building, usually not designed by architects, offers interesting design challenges. Typical elements of the railway have been used in the design. Repetition of evenly distributed elements like railway sleepers and the dynamics of railway switches are revealed in the facade. Hot-dip galvanized elements of steel are used, a material which is so historically typical for the railway infrastructure. The train house does not want to be an ordinary building. The semi-transparent envelope communicates with the surroundings, showing its essence while at the same time protecting the train from environmental nuisances.

Simultaneously, the building is a reinterpretation of railway carts. It is designed both as a part of a railway track and as a train itself. A house for a train, the place where a train sleeps.
