The project transforms the solution of a functional problem – giving a pedestrian safety sidewalk to this stretch of road – into a new 450 m promenade connecting the city to the port. The path runs partly at the same level of the seaside road (Via Aurelia), and partly down on the beach. At Cape San Donato, the pedestrian path follows the slope of the route of the ancient Aurelia, excavated in the rock. The intervention here is limited to the new paving, the restoration of the stone wall parapet, along with a 20 m bridge and a new wooden deck in the collapsed part.
