The masseria is set in the heart of the Puglia countryside with views to Ostuni, and to the sea. Built using traditional techniques and local materials, the modern architecture is influenced by masserie (farmhouses) of the past. The project transforms the solution of a functional problem – giving a pedestrian safety sidewalk to this stretch of road – into a new 450 m promenade connecting the city to the port. The path runs partly at the same level of the seaside road (Via Aurelia), and partly down on the beach.
Metellus's House is located in the heart of Sasso Barisano off the historic «Via Fiorentini» and takes name from tower «Metellana» which was part of the walls of the ancient quarter of «Sassi di Matera» (Civita). All spaces, both internal and external, have been restored and designed to accommodate all the new features of the hotel. The skilled and experienced workers engaged in the recovery of the cave‑dwellings have managed to create comfortable and elegant both public areas and the four suites of the dwelling.
The project is a part of a general hypothesis for re‑using the old railway line, that connected Caltagirone with Piazza Armerina and Dittaino. The railway's abandoned real estate, its slow deterioration, the transformation into ruins; this has all acquired an unsuspected role and form. These buildings, like magic boxes, permit us to see and discover the landscape. The park, like estrange machine, disassembles and reassembles the worldly things we know.
The 45 hectares of the site have an historical antecedent in the 19th‑century urbanisation of the left bank of the Rhône. Between the river and the dyke a potential biotope came to life, though it was never occupied for any significant period of time. It was placed under environmental protection in the 1990s, and a competition for the creation of a park was launched, which was won by Ilex. On the scale of the metropolis, this is the final link in a continuity of landscape that runs along the left bank of the Rhône.
ICHOT – Gate of Poznan was built in the very historical core of Poznan, Ostrów Tumski, where the Polish statehood and Polish Christianity have their origins. The very simple form of the building deprived of any needless ornaments on the one hand is built in respect to the historical background but on the other hand stands in striking contrast to it emphasizing modern times when it was erected.
